Neil K Walk. Andy McKee cover - Ebon Coast. Now for the technical issues regarding this recording. The original is played on a fan-fret baritone - the likes of which I will never be able to afford or justify.

It turns out that surprisingly the guitar's tonal balance also suits this song nicely as well - even when the medium gauge strings are all tuned down to baritone tuning and are super slinky. There are still a number of rough spots but in my way of learning songs being able to play start to finish without getting too hung up is a major milestone.

I'll be continuing to work on this one and once I've reasonably mastered it I'm gonna record it once again, possibly with video.

The tapping parts are giving me the most trouble as you can probably hear but I feel like I'm almost there. It's been a major undertaking but I feel that once I do this I may be able to go back to some other tough fingerstyle covers that have confounded me over the past few years.

Based on my system, anyway, I would recommend bringing up the bass a little and take a little treble off the mix to give the guitar a warmer tone. Andy actually didn't use the Greenfield Fan Fret for the first video of this tune. He used a Lance McCollum Baritone. Personally, I think the McCollum sounds better than the Greenfield. Great job on the tune, Neil!

Nice job so far Neil. One of the things that Andy does quite well is paying attention to melody. Despite all his other positives, I really feel Andy's attention to melody is one of the primary attributes that has brought him success.

In a YouTube world, accessibility to his melodies "hum-ability" is what has propelled his popularity outside of our small genre, and into the public eye.

Try singing or humming the melody while you are practicing. Once you bring that to the forefront, you'll be spot-on. Then you can add some Neil-isms to the mix and make it your own. The biggest boo boo is that I recorded this around midnight the other night and a nearby toy went off toward the end of the song. It was so loud that I was afraid it along with my playing would wake everybody up so I decided to call it a night. Ebon Coast Video Guitar Lesson. Best Matt. Wow, that sounds great.
